This is a video I wanted to make for a very long time. Often, I explain to my students in person how to make all these steps, but once they get home and a couple of days passes many can’t remember what we’ve done in class. I hope this will help them refresh their memoty, but will also be of use to anyone who would like to learn crochet.
This video covers the steps necessary to start a project that is worked flat, in rows. I start with making slip knot, explain how to make chains and then show how to work into those chains, using an example of double stitch. I hope some of the advice in this video will help you enjoy these first steps more, as very often working that first row into the chains is the most frustrating part of a crochet project – it always takes longer, even after years of practice. For those who really struggle with working their stitches into a chain, I firstly recommend to tackle a few projects made in the round – for example based on a granny square. This will allow you to gain confidence in crochet first and then come back to this. Alternatively you can try out the foundational stitches.
